Silver Marks
Hi,
Im very interested in the Silver Marks and think it is a fantastic idea. I do have a couple of questions though. How do you earn Silver Marks? Just by reading the updates, or by contributing to the forum (something I rarely do). Also, when will this take effect?
Intrigued,
Conor
I should clarify: while I frequently read what is posted and the responses to the posts, I rarely post comments myself.
Conor
Hello, Conor:
Granting that this query of yours is one that should naturally be handled by Webmaster Mark, I still want to throw in my own contribution. The construction of the Silver Mark rewards program is still under way and it won't come into full operation until the new Site is launched, but is really exciting and should be almost infinitely adaptable and versatile. Participation and methods of increasing Silver Marks earnings will vary widely and because our electronic tracking of activity under the new platform will be very sophisticated, we visualize all kind of stuff like allocating Silver Marks for things like bringing new visitors and contributors to the Site, pointing out or sending in local reviews of new books, contributing to general and specific Forum discussions, making suggestions and voicing your ideas about the Site itself, and even posting your own personal reviews of, and reactions to, the various books and individual pages featured on-site.
The fact that you yourself have historically tended to lurk, observe and say little is easily changed... Each time you take a few minutes to chip in to a discussion or respond to something that you see or read, you'll be rewarded for your time and effort by the growth of your Silver Mark hoard, and the redemption program will include all kinds of things from signed first editions and rare, not-for-sale ARCs (Advance Reviewers' Copies) from different markets (Canada, the USA and the UK), through personalized Book Plates and eventually, we hope, more arcane things like T-shirts featuring the artwork from Foreign Language editions of the various books... It's going to be fun, so stay tuned and watch for the official launch of the new Site platform at jackwhyte.com.

I LOVE this new format. Lots of great content, and the videos of you popping up for a chat are terrific! They really bring warmth and a personal touch to the website.
I must also add I'm a sucker for these silver marks. What a great idea. Well done! So much to read and do here.

Hey Jack, it's Shelley Ford, daughter of the crazy Larry guy you used to hang around with during the Calgary nightlife days! Mom forwarded me your email message, so I thought I'd join the site and poke around a bit. Great job on the site, and I thought the videos were a fantastic addition; a nice, personal introduction to your work. I look forward to your latest literary triumphs! :)

Hello, Shelley, and welcome aboard! Last time I saw you, in Midnapore back in the 80s, you weren't even old enough to read... Doesn't time fly when you're having fun?
And yes, time really does fly! I've always been an avid reader, ever since the ripe old age of 3. Thankfully mom understood the importance of bedtime stories at an early age.
I thoroughly enjoy your writing; mom told me she used to hound you about becoming a writer. Though having a mother be "right" about anything is a hard pill to swallow for any kid, I'll happily give her credit for that one hehehe ;)
Take care Jack, and I look forward to your next masterpiece! :)

OK, so how does one score the Silver Marks for Visiting? No matter how many pages I've been to on the site, I only wind up with 2. But I've seen that other people here have far more than that.
Just wondering what the Visiting Silver Marks are awarded for?
edited to add:
Oh, I see. If I log out, and then log back in again, I get another Visiting Mark. So, I guess it's going to be to our advantage to log out every time we leave the site, so we can earn another mark for each time we come here then.
Bonus!
